The Gulf’s Narrow Exit — Iran–Oman · Strait of Hormuz

In 2024, about 20 million barrels per day of oil flowed through the Strait of Hormuz, roughly 20% of global petroleum liquids consumption. The Persian Gulf’s geography makes one narrow exit carry global weight.

Hormuz is a map lesson in dependence. Oil fields may be inland or offshore, but the ships must still pass the same bend between Iran and Oman.
