The River That Breathes — Southeast Asia · Mekong Basin

The Mekong runs nearly 5,000 km and the Lower Mekong basin supports about 65 million people. Its seasonal rise is not a glitch; it is the pulse behind rice fields, fisheries and floating settlements.

At Cambodia’s Tonle Sap, high water can even reverse the flow toward the lake. The map choreographs a simple lesson: a river civilization can be built around motion, not just banks.
