The Okavango is a rare inland delta: water from Angolan highlands spreads into the Kalahari instead of reaching the sea. The World Heritage property covers about 2.02 million ha, and seasonal floods turn desert-edge land into a moving oasis.
The flood arrives during Botswana’s dry season, a beautiful delay written by distance. Channels, islands and papyrus beds shift the boundary between desert and wetland every year.
