长江约 6,300 公里长，流域区域住着 4 亿多人，接近中国人口三分之一。它把高山来水、内河港口、湖泊平原与沿海城市群串成一体。
长江不像一条单纯河谷，更像一串盆地与平原的阶梯。重庆、武汉、南京、上海同在一根水脊上，却各自对应不同地势台阶。
The Yangtze is roughly 6,300 km long and its region holds more than 400 million people, nearly one-third of China. The basin links mountain water, inland ports, lake plains and a coastal megacity system.
Unlike a single valley, the Yangtze works as a ladder of basins. Chongqing, Wuhan, Nanjing and Shanghai sit on the same watery spine, but each speaks to a different step of the terrain.
